I hope you are all having a lovely Saturday. I am doing a post today about little methods that can help improve your wellbeing. I am sick yet AGAIN, despite the fact that I am only after recovering from a chest infection which was pretty bad. I really dislike taking antibiotics though at the moment I am fighting a loosing battle with my family, friends and boyfriend, who are ganging up on me to go see the doctor.
I usually am never sick. I rarely see the doctor and I always use natural remedies, which I find work best for me. Lately I haven’t been taking very good care of myself though; between lack of sleep, my diet and not taking any supplements to boost me. I have also been extremely busy so I have noticed that I am lacking in that aspect too. Thus is probably the reasoning behind my sickness. So today I have put together a list of things that can help you avoid this ‘Plague’ yes I am a tad dramatic in my sickened state 😛
Natural Health Tips
1. Add some Zinc to your diet. Everybody always talks about Vitamin C to help boost your immune system and it is still important, but Zinc is also a powerful tool in building you up. As with everything don’t overdo it, 15-25mg per day is sufficient. Zinc can be found in a number of different foods or you can get capsules to take daily.
2. Incorporate Flaxseeds where possible. Flaxseed is excellent for improving your immune system’s response to infections and autoimmune diseases. Improving the speed of response will effectively prevent you from falling victim to chest, throat and other infections. Try it in smoothies, over yogurt, if you’re baking, there are a number of ways to incorporate it.
3. Reduce Stress
Levels. This is a lot easier said than done, trust me I know. Whether it is physcological or physical stress, it can negatively impact your immune system. Long-term stress can decrease the cells’ activities within your immune system. Stress can have a number of negative impacts on different aspects of your health. I’m continuously stressed out so I am going to try and reduce this where possible. I previously did a post about reducing stress and anxiety, which you can find here
4. Add some Spirulina into your diet. It is a form of sea algae that can provide amazing health benefits. It’s anti cancerous and contains nutrients and iron which can act as antioxidants. It can also stimulate the functioning of the body’s immune system. A superfood if ever there was one 🙂 I’m going to try and start incorporating it into smoothies!
5. Balance – everything in this life is about balance. I’m not going to do a blog post preaching that we all have to eat 100% clean, get at least 8 hours sleep a night and to never stress out. I don’t live like that so I think I would be a bit of a hypocrite to say that it is the best way to stay healthy and happy. It is probably the most effective but nobody can live that kind of perfect life. So in my opinion incorporating the above factors where possible is what will make a difference. We all have days where we are extra stressed out, we eat crap, we didn’t get much sleep and / or exercise. It’s about balancing that with the good days that will improve our health and wellbeing.
I am going to try and incorporate the tips above into my lifestyle and hopefully kick this sickness’ ass! I hope it is helpful to you guys too and will hopefully prevent you from feeling like I have for the last few weeks.
