Hello Beautiful People ❤
I hope you are all enjoying your Monday!
Today’s post is about a new lipstick I’ve been testing out. I am a huge lover of lipstick and I am always raving about the Clinique offerings. I am also quite a big fan of Mac too. Whilst I do love these products, lets be honest sometimes they can be a bit pricey. I tend to stick with them due to their quality, however when you are unsure of colours or want to try something new, sometimes it’s nicer to have a cheaper alternative.
I love Nivea, I find it so gentle on my skin and it is excellent for the cold weather. I pop this on about 5 minutes before I start my makeup!
The every day primer I use is the Catrice Prime and Fine. I only need a small bit and generally put it on my cheeks as this where my makeup previously used to come off throughout the day.
I am using Rimmel’s Wake Me Up foundation in Soft Beige for Monday to Friday. I apply one layer of that and then I tend to put a very light layer of MAC Studio Fix over the top. I find this gives a nice finish without being too heavy on my skin.
I have been using Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in 010 Ivory. I haven’t been using it all that long so I’m still testing the water on this one. The reason I decided to go for this option is because it has added highlighter, which saves time in the mornings. I always go for a lighter shade when it comes to my concealer as it helps hide my dark circles!
Contour / Highlight & Blusher
The Sleek contour Palette is by far my favourite product at the moment. The three in one is just so handy and means I am not rooting for other products (I’m not very organised in the mornings, anything that can save time is key!) I also think the colours are excellent, I use the shade 373 Light.
I do also use the No7 highlighter (which I’m always raving about!) on the top of my cheekbones and on my brow bone. Highlighting is one of the best makeup tools available and I usually just add those quick little dabs after I have finished my makeup.
Catrice Matte Plus Powder is great for setting foundation. I tend to only apply it under my eyes and a small bit over my forehead. I use 030 Warm Beige. Working in an office can dry out your skin so I find too much powder will end up making skin looking dull and in some cases highlight dry patches. Not what us ladies want!
I’m a huge Urban Decay fan when it comes to eye makeup. I don’t generally do much with my eyes Monday- Friday as I said lack of time being the main reason. I do however use the Naked 3 ‘Limit’ shadow along the crease of my eye as it adds some definition. Sometimes if I have more time I will use ‘Limit’ on my lid and add ‘Nooner’ or ‘Liar’ along the crease.
I swear by white eyeliner at the moment. It really brightens up my eyes and makes me look more awake. I’m loving the Natural Collection’s offering and it’s only roughly €2.00 ladies!
If I’m using a gel liner, I opt for the Essence Liquid Ink as I find the brush is really good.
At the moment I am using the No7 Lash Impact mascara. I find it is lengthening my lashes without being too clumpy. I hate clumpy mascara that sticks your lashes together. It drives me mad!
As I’ve said before I love the Sleek eyebrow kit. I love that is has a mixture of wax and powder so that you can achieve a natural look. The angled brush is also a life saver.
I own about a million different lip liners. I buy new ones to go with new lipsticks 😛 At the moment I’m using the Natural Collection in the colour Almond
I’m a big lover of lipstick. I love trying new brands but one of my all time favourites is Clinique for everyday wear. The quality is amazing and ensures your lips feel moisturised throughout the day. At the moment I’m using the Sweet Honey colour.
Quick pic before work this morning using the above products:
I never retouch my makeup throughout the day (I’m just too lazy) so I like to ensure it is applied correctly in the mornings. It has to last 11 hours after all. The products listed above are all generally great value so I don’t have to worry about using them everyday. I will be doing a post on my Night Out and Occasion Makeup preferences or as I like to call it my ‘weekend makeup’ soon so stay tuned 🙂
I hope you enjoyed guys ❤
Until Next Time My Loves
I am always been told not to wear my MAC foundation each time I apply my make-up. Everyone always says it’s a waste for day to day use and that it should be kept for nights out and special occasions. I find that one bottle however does last as only a small amount is required. However these conversations did prompt me to think of the foundations I have previously used and evaluate what foundations have the best purpose and what are my favourites. I’ve also tested out a few cheaper options to try and decipher my Top 5 Foundations currently available.
Best For Staying Put : Estee Lauder Double Wear
This foundation literally does what it says on the tin. It really does not come off your face until you are removing it with cleanser, even then it takes a while to get off properly. Some may think it is a bit heavy, however girls I know swear by it. I used to wear it too but find it can be a tad heavy. It is however ideal if you want to apply makeup in the morning and not touch it until your going to bed. It really does stay put! For those of you who think it may be a bit thick then maybe try the new ‘light’ version. Both options are available from €37.00 in a number of different retailers including Boots and Debenhams.
Best for Light Everyday Wear : Catrice Nude Illusion
I was pleasantly surprised by the Nude Illusion offering by Catrice. It gives a nice over all coverage, but you don’t feel like you are wearing make-up. It is ideal for a day when your not doing a full face of make-up but just want to stick on a bit of foundation and mascara. I also really liked the colour as I did feel like I wasn’t wearing any make-up but obviously looked better than I do without it! It’s also such a bargain at €8.49 meaning that you don’t have to worry about wearing it every day.
Best for Nights Out : MAC Studio Fix
I love this foundation, it gives great coverage without being too heavy and I think it is perfect for a night out. It helps balance out your skin tone, particularly for pictures. The girls in MAC are also great for matching up the perfect colour for your skin. The foundation itself gives a nice, healthy and illuminating sheen without the dreaded shine. It also lasts ages as I find I genuinely don’t need much for each application. You can buy it from Brown Thomas or online from €31.50
Best for Brightening up Tired Skin: Rimmel Wake Me Up
I was initially skeptical when trying out this foundation. If I’m honest, I didn’t believe that a budget foundation could brighten and ‘wake up’ my consistently tired skin. I did however notice a difference, so I will hold my hands up and admit I was wrong for my skepticism! The skin (bags) around and under my eyes actually did look brighter and I found it did match my skin tone really well. It is also a complete bargain too at €10.99, available from a range of different retailers such as Boots and Penneys.
Best for a Dewy Complexion: Chanel Perfection Lumiere
I love the satin smooth feel of this foundation. It’s almost as if it melts onto your skin and it gives a lovely, dewy finish. I also noticed that it did last a long time as it is quite thick and creamy meaning you really don’t need to apply much. The illuminating aspect of this foundation was great and I didn’t even need much highlighter while wearing it. This foundation costs around €44.00 but as I said I found that it lasted me a significant amount of time, meaning it balanced out the price.
This weekend I had an event to attend, one which was quite difficult to assess in terms of what to wear. On one hand I didn’t want to be too over dressed but I certainly did not want to be under dressed. Anyone who knows me understands how much I love to play dress up and stick the war paint on! It would be a cardinal sin for me to turn down an opportunity to get dolled up! I wanted something different and strayed away from my usual dark colours and opted for muted, Winter pastels.
Top €6.99, Necklace €14.99, Shoes €24.99 all Newlook Pencil Skirt €18.00 River Island (on sale, WINNING!)
Aside from the statement necklace, I kept my jewellery quite simple. I just wore my watch (I always wear a watch!) my Pandora bracelet and a simple band ring I have from Links of London. I didn’t want to over do it and take away from the simplicity of the outfit.
Needless to say by the end of the day I was nearly the same colour as the skirt, thanks to the good old Irish weather, but nothing a few sneaky vodkas couldn’t fix!
Hope you enjoyed 🙂
