Slovakian Style Diary

We Travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us

bratislava_castle_and_old_town

Hey Guys,

I’m just home from a wonderful, long weekend in Slovakia. Braislava is a beautiful city which was made even prettier by the snow. We had a great time and ate and drank far too much (which is to be expected) but I will be doing a blog post on that in the coming week. For this particular post, I am going to focus on what I wore as I have been receiving some messages on Facebook and Instagram asking where I purchased everything.

58-1

I am hands down the worst packer in the world! I always leave it until the last minute and am extremely indecisive when it comes to deciding what to bring. For our trip to Bratislava we only had our hand luggage so I had no choice but to be remotely sensible and objective in my choices.

So here is my Slovakian Style Diary

Photo: Bratislava you were on point 󾮟 #slovakia #travel #fashion

I love my Leather Jacket because the fur trim can actually be removed so it will be useful in the Spring too. I got it for Christmas and it is perfect for these cold mornings, it can be bought Here

My Jeans are the Molly Reform Jeggings and I have these in a range of different colours. They are, in my opinion, the best fitting jeans available. They can be bought for €50.00 Here

I bought my ankle boots in Newlook for an absolute bargain of €27.00 but they don’t appear to be available any more. I did however spot these lovely boots on the Newlook website. You can check them out Here & Here

My Bag is one of my favourite buys of 2014, I love large bags and I was looking for a nice black one for ages. It is from H&M however as it was bought last November, I don’t think it is still available, but I did spot this almost identical option online.

My hat was my saviour for the weekend, it not only protected me from the snow, it also acted as a shield between my hungover face and the Slovakian Airport. In hindsight it is probably the reasoning behind me getting unpleasantly fondled by the airport security. Apparently I looked like a criminal 😛 Anyway it can be bought from H&M and such a bargain at €19.99!

My tartan scarf is actually from Scotland. I bought it a few years back when I was in Edinburgh. This option from River Island however is pretty similar.

My second favourite look from when I was away can be seen below.

My jeans are again the Molly Jeggings (I wasn’t lying when I said they were my favourites!) and they can be bought here. I fell in love with this fur headband when I seen it a few weeks back. I wore it both day and night and it kept me so warm! It was of course an absolute steal in Newlook, check it out here. My knee high boots also came in so handy as they kept me warm in the snow. I bought these in Newlook too, but they don’t seem to be available anymore. I have chosen a few similar options that you can try:

 River Island , H&M

I love quilted coats and the one I’m wearing from Zara has been such a good investment. I think it is sold out at the moment but a very similar one is still available in the store.

I always tend to keep my outfits casual when I’m away, particularly when the weather is cod. My outfits mainly included turtle necks, skinny jeans and flat boots as you can see. I’m also a sucker for some faux fur which can be seen in both outfits.

So there’s my Slovakian Style Diary, I hope you enjoyed and found the links useful 🙂

Happy Shopping!

Nail that Sale

Hey Guys,

We all know the day after Christmas means one thing (aside from more over eating and drinking) it is of course the post Christmas sales. As I previously worked in retail for 6 years and the fact that I am a self confessed shopaholic, I know how to sale shop!

While there are great bargains to be found, there are also in many cases old products from the back of the stock room thrown out onto the floor too. So you the shopper is often left wading through stock from two seasons ago, just to find the styles you have been looking for. So I have picked out my favourites from this year’s sales to hopefully help you safe some time, effort and of course money!

I personally try not to buy anything that is too ‘this season’ during the sales as I always fall in love with the new stock coming into the stores. I only ever pick something that I know I will like this time next year too, hence nothing that is associated too much with a particular trend.

It’s Not Just Puppy Love

Hey Guys,

As you will know from my previous posts I am an avid animal lover. This combined with the fact that I am a dog owner, I’ve decided to base this post around the big issue of dogs at Christmas. Unfortunately there are many problems associated with puppies being bought as Christmas presents and also with older dogs not being cared for efficiently over the festive period.

First off I would like to kick off with the issue of the weather. There’s no denying how cold it is in the run up to Christmas. I completely understand that some people don’t like their dogs being inside (my dog personally has run of the house!) but look each to their own. However when the weather is in the minus degrees and it is literally freezing, dogs should not be left outside. The coldness can put pressure on their organs and it’s just in general cruel to allow your pet to suffer. No fur coat can protect an animal when the temperature drops so low during the night.

I also can’t believe that it also still needs to be said, but unfortunately it does. A puppy is not a novelty gift. It is a new member in your family and if you cannot see that then do not ‘buy’ one for Christmas with the fake promise of a loving home. I know many people may not intend this to be the case but it is an issue that is increasing. Last year on the 5th of January, the DSPCA received 55 phone calls from people who wanted to ‘return’ or ‘surrender’ the dogs they had gotten for Christmas. That is a 110% increase on the previous year. That is less than two weeks after receiving the dog. This is simply not fair on a puppy as they need to get used to their surroundings, not be passed from place to place.

If you are unsure about a dog ask yourself some questions about what your plans are for the future. Can you dedicate time to your pet? They do need to be walked but they also need love and affection, throughout their entire life not just when they are small and fluffy. Your love for your pet should not decline the older they get, it should increase! Dogs are also not the cheapest to own. In my mind they are worth every penny, but you need to consider whether you can afford to or are willing to spend money on your pet. Between food, vaccines and the vet fees, there is a budget that needs to be allocated to ensure sufficient care for your dog. It is cruel to leave them without any of the above.

At the end of the day, a dog is an amazing gift at any time of the year. If it is only considered for Christmas then perhaps you need to re-evaluate. Looking after your dog, is like looking after a child. If you can’t do this then do not get one. It really is as simple as that. If however you make an informed decision and get a dog and fall in love with it, then welcome to the club! It is great 🙂

Just some food for thought guys!

Until next time My Loves

Ps. Just because I’m one of those dog owners who loves to show people pictures of my baby / dog, here’s some pics of my wonderful, troublesome ‘puppy’
