Race Day – What We Wore

Hello Beautiful People ❤

I hope you’re all enjoying your weekend? I am currently nursing a bit of a sore head after a great girls night out. I think we all need to let our hair down a little from time to time. Trying to eat healthy has gone out the window the last two days but I will be back on track tomorrow (hopefully)

We had an excuse to get more glammed up than usual due to the fact it was ‘Ladies Day’ at the races. I had a last minute outfit panic and ended up buying two different options on Thursday evening. I am the worst for doing that to myself, I then feel stressed then until I’m actually in the outfit and popping out the door.

Get that Job

Hello Beautiful People ❤

As a recent (ish) graduate I understand the pressures and often the struggles of finding a new job. There are thousands of applicants looking for jobs everyday, so it can be tough and disheartening when it comes to your job search. Soooooo I’ve decided to do a post on a few tips and tricks I have come across when it comes to interviews and starting a new job. I am by no means an expert these are just things I have learned along the way and that I felt have helped me in securing my job roles.

Remember everyone starts somewhere!

Nobody starts with their ideal job, everybody starts at the bottom. Unless you win the lotto, it is very unlikely that you will be running the show when you first start. I’m not saying be everyone’s dogsbody, but don’t go in with the attitude that certain work is beneath you, even if it is. It’s called paying your dues and you may be surprised at how much you learn when you’re not expecting to.

Keep Going with the Job Search

It is frustrating I know, trust me! There are so many applicants out there but you will find something provided you keep looking. It is recommended that if you aren’t having any luck with your search, that you should diversify your search a bit more. This can help come across roles that are different but still applicable to you. Don’t focus too much on a certain set of ‘key words’ have a look at what’s out there.

Manners go a long way

This goes for the interview and the job and just throughout life in general. I personally think there’s a lot to be said for good manners. I think it showcases a good character and let’s be honest it doesn’t hurt to say please and thank you whilst being curtious to those around you. By those, I don’t just mean those who are in charge, there’s a lot to be said for people who are kind and polite for those who aren’t in a position to help you. Who knows anyway, in the future they may be able to help you so why destroy that chance with rudeness. Also being rude is just unnecessary and can really hurt someone’s feelings. Don’t be that person.

Get to know your colleagues

This is essential for when your starting out. Making friends in a new work place may not always be easy but it is crucial. They are the ones who will help look out for you and teach you tips and tricks of the day to day. Things that aren’t taught in your induction. It is great to get to know people from other departments for networking purposes too. You may not be in your ideal role as of now, but who knows what may become available in the future.

At the end of the day isn’t it nicer to work somewhere that you have friends? Having a bit of friendly ‘banter’ in work will make the days go quicker.

Ask Questions!

Nobody minds helping the new person out, they understand that you don’t know much in your first couple of weeks. People do however mind when someone who has been in the role a significant amount of time, is still doing things wrong. Don’t be shy, just ask if you don’t know something.

Give it time

Absolutely nobody likes to be the ‘Newbie’ but it’s unavoidable, especially for graduates looking for a job. It is daunting and there is often that feeling of wanting to just quit, but wait it out. Once you start becoming more familiar with people, processes and just your new surroundings, you will have a different perspective. If you decide after some time that it is still not for you, well then at least you know you have done the adult thing and tried.

 Market Yourself

My Mam once told me a story about a girl who she had previously interviewed who was embarrassed about her previous role as a supervisor in a fast food chain. She couldn’t see how it would benefit her role in a global financial institution. It ended up that the experience and training she received actually put her ahead of other candidates.

Show the interviewer how what you have learned in your previous roles can be applied to the vacancy you’ve applied for. This can be done through your cover letter and also throughout the interview process. Don’t feel that you have nothing to offer, always market yourself!

Give it time//

There’s no quick fix to getting your ideal job. It is all about hard work and persistence. I hope this post is of use to any of you out there looking for a job or starting in a new role. It’s not easy but as they say, nothing worth having is! ❤

Product Review; Whiter Teeth at Home

Hey Guys,

So it’s Monday yet again and I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Today’s post is about getting whiter teeth at home and of course on a budget!

I am a fanatic about teeth and I am on a mission to improve mine where possible. I am quite self conscious about my own teeth. You may have noticed I don’t always do a big ‘open mouthed’ smile in pictures. This is because I dislike my teeth A LOT. I am in the process of getting invisalign and I will be doing upcoming posts on my own personal experience with them, so watch this space.

As I am currently awaiting my moulds, I don’t think it’s appropriate to get my teeth whitened professionally, as soon they are going to be covered by the retainer. I do however want my teeth as white as they can be for the time being. I find a lot of ‘whitening’ toothpastes don’t actually work. To be honest I don’t think it’s possible to fully achieve the Hollywood smile from at home products especially if you’re a coffee addict like myself. I have however come across a tooth paste that has made my teeth significantly whiter and I would highly recommend it:

Beverly Hills Formula Perfect White

The only place that I can find this product is Superdrug. I go to the one in The Square, Tallaght. The toothpaste costs about €6.00 but it’s the only toothpaste that has made a real difference without being too abrasive. I have sensitive teeth but it hasn’t impacted me in that aspect at all. It’s great for anyone who doesn’t want to splash out on professional whitening but still wants brighter teeth.

Be warned the toothpaste comes out black as it contains charcoal to aid in the whitening process. This is normal, don’t feel like there is something wrong with yours!

I hope you’re all having a fabulous Monday and have kicked off the week with a positive attitude 🙂

A Bit About Me

Hey Guys,

Happy Friday the 13th (cue the dramatic undertones) I know it’s supposed to be unlucky but it’s Friday so I’m focusing on that aspect. For today’s post, I’ve done a little ‘get to know me’ feature. I’ve been blogging for almost 8 months now and I felt that I should give a little insight into who I am and what makes me tick.

Favourite Colour: Black I can’t really say black can I? I’ll go for Blue. I love cobalt blue, it looks great with a tan!

Biggest Fear: Losing someone I love. I’ve always had an irrational fear of losing the people that mean the most to me. I was one of those nightmare kids who panics over everything! Sharks and flying are a close joint second!

My Most Irrational Fear: Cows. Yes I know it’s an odd thing to be afraid of, hence me acknowledging that it is an irrational fear. They freak me out with their staring and mooing.

My Pet Hate: People looking down on others and being disrespectful. I just don’t think anyone has the right to portray that kind of behaviour, no matter who they are.

I also cannot tolerate cruelty, whether it’s towards people or animals. It is not so much a ‘pet hate’ but actually something that really bothers me.

My Favourite Animal: My dog Belle is my favourite little person in the world. She has such a funny little personality. Aside from Dogs, elephants are my favourite ‘wild’ animal. They are so gentle and wise.

My Education: I have an honours degree in Marketing. I graduated in 2014 and although it was stressful, I loved what I was studying and have some amazing memories from the four years I studied. It is true what they say you can make some life long friends in college.

Three Things I believe cannot be bought:

  1. Style
  2. Manners
  3. Kindness

My Favourite Singer: I’m a huge music fan and I like a wide variety of different artists from Pink Flyod to Eminem to Beyonce, but Emeli Sande is the probably the voice that I could listen to all day. Her album ‘Our Version of Events’ is timeless.

My Most Annoying Habit: Being late! I wouldn’t mind I am never late to work, I am however always late to meet my friends and my boyfriend. One of my best friend’s pet hates is when people are late, it’s a wonder she hasn’t killed me. My poor boyfriend is used to it.

My Star Sign: Pisces, I’m a water baby. I was always swimming as a child and find it so therapeutic. Not sure where they got some of the characteristics below, but ‘has the last word’ is me for sure! 😛

The Only Movie to Make Me Cry: There have only ever been two movies that have made me cry; The Lion King and I am Sam. I’m not really a crier when it comes to movies and I don’t like soppy films at all, but these two got me!

Favourite Actress: I’d say Sandra Bullock. I just feel like we would get a long if we met. Realistically it would just be me hugging her while she tries to get away, but l’d like to think we would get along 😉

Favourite Actor: This is a predictable one but it has to be Robert Downey Jr. I just love everything about him. I’m also a huge Johnny Depp fan. I love him for all his weirdness.

The Best Advice I’ve Ever Received: Persistence is key. My parents always told me that if I commit to something I must be persistent as that is the only way I will succeed. They have their moments.

Eating Habits: I could pretty much out eat anyone I’ve ever met, if I allow myself to, I love all types of food and am never full!

My Favourite Hobbies: Aside from eating, I love to shop and travel. I am fashion obsessed and I am a danger to my bank account when I enter a store!

I also love to travel, particularly city breaks. I love experiencing different cultures and believe it makes you a more rounded person over all. I am fortunate enough to have seen some amazing cities such as Prague, Edinburgh Amsterdam, New York, Bratislava and I plan to see many more.

Random Fact: I really dislike Valentine’s Day, I think it has become all about money and about popularity. I’ve never had a bad Valentine’s Day but I’m just not a fan. Love should be shown all year round and not confined to one day.

My Family: I am an only child. I am extremely lucky however that I have a very close family and so was never a ‘lonely’ child. I consider my first cousins my siblings and I honestly would be lost without my amazing family.

Beliefs: I don’t believe in luck. I do believe in faith (I think) but when it comes to luck, I think we make our own.

What I’m worst at: I hate saying goodbye to people, if it is only for a few weeks, it makes me really sad. I really can’t deal with long term good byes 😦

My Life: My Family, Close Friends and my Boyfriend are amazing people and I am truly lucky that they make up my life. It’s the little things they do that make me love them all the more.

I need to take more pictures of the people I love as the above doesn’t reflect even nearly everyone!

So that’s a little insight into my life, I was unsure whether to do this post initially but I personally like to know about the author of blogs I read. I hope you enjoyed and are making plans for a wonderful weekend!
