Hello Beautiful People
Another week, another foodie post!
This weeks diet and healthy eating has been much better than previous weeks. As I mentioned in last Monday’s Confession of a Secret Snacker, I needed to get back on track this week. Thankfully I stuck with it.
I did a three day detox from Monday to Wednesday:
- No pasta / bread / rice
- No chocolate / sweets / crisps
- No fizzy drinks
- No cheese (harder than I thought!)
I was also supposed to give up coffee but allowed myself one a day. Lets be honest here, the world is a safer place when I’ve been caffeinated.
I only stuck with the detox for three days as I don’t like cutting food groups out completely for long periods of time. This is how intolerances are built up. Healthy eating isn’t about rushing your progress and cutting out the food you love. It’s all about balance at your own pace.
I have been doing some research this week about foods that are beneficial to our bodies as opposed to just being low calorie or low fat. When you work long hours, like many of us do, food that nourishes your body is crucial. Good wholesome options also tend to fill us up. This in turn reduces our likelihood of snacking on sugar!
I have been increasing my intake of the following food products in order to Improve overall health and balance. I have actually noticed that I’m not only fuller, I also have more energy.
Bananas – they are a great super food that not only keeps you youthful (never too early to start) but also help protect your body from muscle cramps during and after strenuous activity. Perfect if you plan on upping the workouts, like I am hoping to do this week.
Kale – we all know it’s good for us, but how often do we incorporate it into our diets? It is actually great for boosting your immune system and is full of antioxidants. Perfect for the winter months.
Lemons – lemons contain an incredible amount of vitamin C, again something that is crucial to keeping sickness at bay over the colder months. Nobody wants to be sick during the festive season! Lemons are also great for cleansing your body and aiding a detox.
I have been adding bananas and kale to my smoothies and a slice of lemon to my water and green tea. Lemons help speed up the effects of green tea and they also add a nice flavour if like me you’re not it’s biggest fan.
I did have my cheat day on Friday and I did go to town. Despite a sneaky glass of wine on Saturday and a few squares of white chocolate, I have had a pretty healthy weekend. I don’t diet on Sunday’s though. Ever. It’s a sin.
How did you guys get on? I also have another healthy recipe coming up for you on the blog this week. Be sure to keep an eye out 🙂
Here’s to a Healthy & Happy week!
