I have long been one of those people who admired early morning runners, albeit from a distance while burying my head into my coffee and muttering about how tired I am. This week however I decided to take the plunge and start doing it myself. Now not in the mornings before work, one step at a time people, I need to ease myself into it!
I’e decided to start going running three times a week, not solely for fitness and weight loss purposes, but also to clear my head. Physical exercise can have a huge impact on your mindset and has long been recommended to help reduce anxiety. I have to say, it actually does work. I’ve felt much better this week thankfully.
I have set myself little targets to achieve to help my running improve. To say I’m not very good at it is a bit of an understatement. I’m actually laughing at how bad I truly am, but at least I can’t get any worse! There is only room for improvement!
There are numerous apps you can download to help track your fitness progress. Map My Walk and Couch to 5K are both pretty good, however I find setting out your own personal goals is what drives progress. At the moment I am only doing 30 minutes each for the three sessions and I will slowly progress this once my running improves.
A quick snap before my run the other day – excuse the poor lighting!
I have seen quite a few people out running of late, not just the super fit skinny minnies who look they could run a marathon, but also people (like myself) who look like they are struggling and not enjoying it. Nonetheless they are still out and pushing themselves. I have such admiration for people who do this! Persistence and dedication aren’t easy when something is tiresome and difficult, but those who are trying are the ones who will succeed!
Is anyone else a runner? Let me know how you’re getting on 🙂
