Beginning of my Invisalign Journey

Hey Guys,

I hope you are all having a wonderful day ❤ I’ve recently got Invisalign and thought I would fill you all in. I probably should have done some reading up on the side effects prior to investing in the aligners, so hopefully this can help anyone thinking of making the next step!

After the aligners were put in, I received three packs which are to be changed every two weeks, so I don’t have to go back to the dentist for 8 weeks. I also received an instruction DVD and a case to hold the aligners when they are removed.

I wasn’t expecting to get my Invisalign for another two weeks but my moulds came back early. This is obviously wonderful as I’m happy to get started as soon as possible. I would however have preferred to mentally prepare myself as I really have a fear of the dentist. Anyway, instead of removing any of my teeth, they were filed down. My jawline is too small for all my teeth so this may not be necessary in all cases so don’t panic!

The filing was surprisingly not too bad; more an odd sensation as opposed to painful. If any of you have had your eyebrows threaded you will understand that weird feeling, that doesn’t hurt but isn’t pleasant.

Here’s a close up of the first set of aligners

My teeth are killing me! I feel like there is constant pressure pushing down on them (I know that is the point but it’s uncomfortable!)  My lips are also quite sore, particularly the top one. I feel like I look like I’m constantly pouting, but not in a good way, in a ‘I look like a duck’ kind of way.

My biggest issue is eating. I can’t bite into anything hard and so have been living on smoothies / milkshakes, soup and porridge. I am starving! The aligners need to be removed when eating and this is very painful. When they are removed my teeth are throbbing and I still can’t bring myself to eat anything that requires chewing.

Anyone who follows me on Instagram will have seen that my best friend bought me these ‘sore teeth friendly’ chocolate options:

She is the best and no I am not sharing her or the chocolate! 😛

I have been told that the pain eases after the first week. I am praying that is does. It is something that I really did not take into account when getting the Invisalign put in. If anyone reading this is considering getting them, then be warned of the pain. It’s quite difficult in work, especially as I am in the first week of my new job.

Anyone experiencing tooth aches or have braces, these bad boys are the only thing stopping the pain, they are strong though so obviously only ideal for short term use!

At the end of the day though, I have always been self conscious of my teeth and I do feel positive that I am proactively tackling that issue. I will keep you updated as I progress through to the next set in two weeks.

Until Next Time My Loves
