I am always been told not to wear my MAC foundation each time I apply my make-up. Everyone always says it’s a waste for day to day use and that it should be kept for nights out and special occasions. I find that one bottle however does last as only a small amount is required. However these conversations did prompt me to think of the foundations I have previously used and evaluate what foundations have the best purpose and what are my favourites. I’ve also tested out a few cheaper options to try and decipher my Top 5 Foundations currently available.
Best For Staying Put : Estee Lauder Double Wear
This foundation literally does what it says on the tin. It really does not come off your face until you are removing it with cleanser, even then it takes a while to get off properly. Some may think it is a bit heavy, however girls I know swear by it. I used to wear it too but find it can be a tad heavy. It is however ideal if you want to apply makeup in the morning and not touch it until your going to bed. It really does stay put! For those of you who think it may be a bit thick then maybe try the new ‘light’ version. Both options are available from €37.00 in a number of different retailers including Boots and Debenhams.
Best for Light Everyday Wear : Catrice Nude Illusion
I was pleasantly surprised by the Nude Illusion offering by Catrice. It gives a nice over all coverage, but you don’t feel like you are wearing make-up. It is ideal for a day when your not doing a full face of make-up but just want to stick on a bit of foundation and mascara. I also really liked the colour as I did feel like I wasn’t wearing any make-up but obviously looked better than I do without it! It’s also such a bargain at €8.49 meaning that you don’t have to worry about wearing it every day.
Best for Nights Out : MAC Studio Fix
I love this foundation, it gives great coverage without being too heavy and I think it is perfect for a night out. It helps balance out your skin tone, particularly for pictures. The girls in MAC are also great for matching up the perfect colour for your skin. The foundation itself gives a nice, healthy and illuminating sheen without the dreaded shine. It also lasts ages as I find I genuinely don’t need much for each application. You can buy it from Brown Thomas or online from €31.50
Best for Brightening up Tired Skin: Rimmel Wake Me Up
I was initially skeptical when trying out this foundation. If I’m honest, I didn’t believe that a budget foundation could brighten and ‘wake up’ my consistently tired skin. I did however notice a difference, so I will hold my hands up and admit I was wrong for my skepticism! The skin (bags) around and under my eyes actually did look brighter and I found it did match my skin tone really well. It is also a complete bargain too at €10.99, available from a range of different retailers such as Boots and Penneys.
Best for a Dewy Complexion: Chanel Perfection Lumiere
I love the satin smooth feel of this foundation. It’s almost as if it melts onto your skin and it gives a lovely, dewy finish. I also noticed that it did last a long time as it is quite thick and creamy meaning you really don’t need to apply much. The illuminating aspect of this foundation was great and I didn’t even need much highlighter while wearing it. This foundation costs around €44.00 but as I said I found that it lasted me a significant amount of time, meaning it balanced out the price.
