“You’re only given one little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it”
When this morning’s news broke of Robin William’s death, I felt compelled to write a short article. I’m not even sure why, it’s not as if I knew the man. I somehow feel though that through the characters he played and the interviews he gave, we all felt a connection with him. Growing up he seemed to part of almost every film I loved. Hearing however that the expected cause of death was suicide is such a saddening thought. It reinforces that every person regardless of who they are, are fighting their own daily battles. I had previously heard that he was suffering with depression, but the fact it ended in suicide is very hard to comprehend. My heart goes out to his family and friends, in particular his wife, but my heart also feels for all those who have lost a loved one to depression. If the saying is true that every cloud has a silver lining then hopefully increased awareness can come from this upsetting event. Depression is such a horrific illness and these people need serious help and care. It’s extremely sad to think that such a prestigious Actor, who was perceived to have everything, could not overcome his own inner demons. It proves the point that money cannot in any way buy happiness and that anyone can be affected by this illness, regardless of their status.
To end the article on a slightly more positive note, here are some of my favourite Robin Williams movies from when I was a child.
