Sorry I know I haven’t been very active the past couple of days. I was on holidays in the beautiful city of Prague and I didn’t have a lot of wifi access. I was also out exploring for most of our time there and wouldn’t have been able to post articles that were of a certain standard, so I decided against it.
While I was away, I really did fall in love with the Czech Republic’s capital and I would definitely recommend it. I was a little bit apprehensive prior to our holiday as I had been told that the city itself is quite expensive and that it is best to go in a big group such as a Hen / Stag party. Having spent six days in the city with it being only my boyfriend and I, I can honestly say that once you enjoy each other’s company (that tends to be essential not just for Prague!) you shouldn’t encounter any problems. There were plenty of bars, restaurants and clubs in almost all areas of the city. We didn’t once feel like we needed a crowd to go in anywhere and the food and drink was extremely reasonable. The city itself is just beautiful. The combined shapes and designs of the buildings created this Eastern, royalty appeal. You don’t have to have an interest in architecture to appreciate it. For us Irish tourists it was like a whole other world. I would even go as far as to say that Prague now rivals one of my other favorite cities; Amsterdam. It’s like something out of a fairy tale
We had enough time to see the city whilst also getting time to just relax in a bar and people watch, a luxury we are not often afforded at home due to work. We decided to venture outside the city one of the days and visited Zoo Praha. I was surprised at how nice it was. Unlike many Zoo’s there was in general plenty of space for the animals and they seemed well taken care off. The elephant safari part of the Zoo was by far my favourite. It was full of spiritual statues and enclosures and was very peaceful.
We also chilled out ‘literally’ in the one of Prague’s biggest clubs which has an Ice lounge on one floor. Everything from the bar to the glasses were made from ice, with glasses melting after about 10 mins. This was really unique and great fun but my god it was freezing, particularly because I was wearing a dress and sandals which were suitable for the hot weather outside but not so much for this bar!
The hotel we stayed in was lovely; very clean with a large breakfast variety included in the price. There was a mini gym on the ground floor which despite all my good intentions, I didn’t make use of. There was also a hot tub and sauna which I thought was pretty impressive. It is quite central, perhaps a bit of a stroll down to the main tourist attractions like Charles Bridge but the surrounding area was perfect. This to me mainly means that I didn’t have to queue for a table in a restaurant (I’m so impatient!) but the place was still quite lively.
One thing to note while your there, if like my boyfriend and I you wanted to relax and get a couples massage, be careful. Firstly where you go and secondly what you ask for. The only thought that worried me was that we could be mistaken for asking for one of ‘those’ massages (which we weren’t!) but luckily the receptionists in the reputable salons had quite good English. If however you are looking for a nice, relaxing massage like myself, do NOT ask for a ‘Thai Massage’ I personally think they need to reconsider the name of this as it is not so much a ‘massage’ as a quite rough chiropractic session. I have never experienced anything like it, it felt like more of an attack than anything else. I don’t know if it was because we were over coming a slight hangover or simply because we could do nothing else, my boyfriend and I managed to laugh through it and I found myself quite giddy during and after. If you do choose one of these massages, bring shorts! I was unaware that unlike Ireland a substantial towel to cover you is not provided and my small underwear did not benefit anyone particularly not the masseuse / ninja warrior !!
Aside from the questionable massage, we had a really great time. If your looking for a city break then Prague is definitely worth consideration! 🙂
